Hi @Rock
I don’t see you devices ‘SBMOB/0110 (9.2.1)’ in available devices.
You can check if it really connected by command: instruments -s devices
Also try add udid in capabilities.

I have to type the command ‘instruments -s devices’ in terminal or how?. Because as soon as I connect the device iTunes start up

yes, in terminal.
You will see list of devices.

You can find real devices by id it is without ‘-’ symbol in lowercase.

As per the screenshot it shows me devices: http://screencast.com/t/Pfz3HrAB1DUF

Have you tried add udid capability ?

No I haven’t will let you know using the same

I tried using udid and getting this error in eclipse

“Exception in thread “main” org.openqa.selenium.SessionNotCreatedException: A new session could not be created. (Original error: Could not initialize ideviceinstaller; make sure it is installed and works on your system) (WARNING: The server did not provide any stacktrace information)
Command duration or timeout: 3.02 seconds”

You need install libimobiledevice
You can do it via brew, just perform in terminal: brew install libimobiledevice

It is needed to work with real devices.
Also to avoid other issues run appium doctor to check that all components are installed.

Showing error: ‘command not found’

As per the screenshot doctor shows everything is fine

Install brew, see here how and repeat

 1. Was able to install ‘brew install libimobiledevice’

 2. After that executed again and getting the below error in appium

info: [debug] Responding to client with error: {“status”:33,“value”:{“message”:“A new session could not be created. (Original error: Could not initialize ideviceinstaller; make sure it is installed and works on your system)”,“origValue”:“Could not initialize ideviceinstaller; make sure it is installed and works on your system”},“sessionId”:null}
info: <-- POST /wd/hub/session 500 1497.442 ms - 300

 1. in eclipse getting the below error

Exception in thread “main” org.openqa.selenium.SessionNotCreatedException: A new session could not be created. (Original error: Could not initialize ideviceinstaller; make sure it is installed and works on your system) (WARNING: The server did not provide any stacktrace information)
Command duration or timeout: 2.23 seconds

Hm it is strange it should not appears if libimobiledevice istalled correctly.

Type in terminal idevice and tap on TAB button

if you will see utils like on picture below then libimobiledevice installed correctly.

if all ok, try restart PC or restart appium server.

if I type idevice in terminal and click tab, there is no action
if I type idevice in terminal and click enter, displays ‘command not found’

Tap TAB twice (several times) if there is no list of utils it means libimobiledevice was not installed

ok showing it correctly

Will try with different device. Anything else missing or how?

So you should not see now error:
Original error: Could not initialize ideviceinstaller; make sure it is installed and works on your system
And why it happens again I don’t know.
Have you rerun appium server after libimobiledevice installation?

rerunned and restarted everything… I am getting the same above error :frowning:

‘Original error: Could not initialize ideviceinstaller; make sure it is installed and works on your system’ on appium

Check this issue
