Receiving the error Code after downloading Simulator builds from Xcode (iOS related

I have a .app build for iOS and I’m trying to run the app in the simulator - here are the steps I see after entering the correct credentials

  • User taps on Launch
  • Log pops up
  • Launch restarts with the following error message

error: Could not find a device to launch. What do I need to do in order for this not to occur?
Newbie here
Version of Appium 1.4.8 dmg

Set it to use a simulator from this list:

I tried that - Here’s an updated screenshot
Is this what you’re referring to?

@wreed

thanks for your help!

I’m going to assume that this means you got it working. Good job!

Unfortunately no -

I still get the error - error: Could not find a device to launch. You requested ‘iPhone (8.2 Simulator)’, but the available devices were: ["iPad 2 (8.1) [EBEEA0F2-

Ok, so the ‘Isolate Simulator Device’ checkbox will delete all the ‘other’ simulators on this machine. Looks like you only have the ‘iPad 2’, which is on 8.1. So:

  1. check ‘Force Device’, and input ‘iPad 2’ (without the quotes)
  2. change ‘Platform Version’ to ‘8.1’

You don’t really need to check ‘Isolate Simulator Device’.

I’m now suspicious on this response - Could it be the build?

BTW I followed the steps you listed, so this issue is now coming up
[MJSONWP] Responding to client with driver.getStatus() result: {“build”:{“version”:“1.5.2”,“revision”:null}}
[HTTP] <-- GET /wd/hub/status 200 9 ms - 83

I would doubt that it’s the build if you can install it normally (through iTunes, for example). Can you give more of the log? You could upload it if you don’t want to post the whole thing.

@wreed
Seems like a new problem is going on here. I was only able to get the build running if I Immediately click on Inspector while Appium is loading up

Log is uploaded

Once I’m in the inspector and I click on “Tap” or any action, the app restarts and is no longer valid to test

updated - I had to remove the app titles for privacy

That’s really strange.

Sorry but I can’t seem to find it.

But this app works fine outside Appium, correct? It does seem that you’ve made some progress, but without the log it’s pretty hard to tell what’s going on. I looked closely at the picture, and there is some stack trace but it’s only the very end.
